Jim, Hope your clean-up is going well.

This area of SW FL has not been hit by a hurricane since 1960 (thankfully); but, any time there is one within 1,000 miles (i.e., George) all the water disappears from the store shelves.

Both of us tend to track a version of the Big Boyz. At the end of August, there were 62 US companies with a market cap of more than $40B or were on the DJIA. Of these 62, 52% beat the Index for 1 year, 10% had a performance between zero and the Index, and 39% were negative. For 5 year returns, 66% beat the Index, 34% provided a return between zero and the Index, and none provided negative returns. Absolutely incredible when compared to the previous post.

OT Invested in a solar energy tax shelter in the early 80's. It did not have a very good outcome. However, I learned some good lessons that I now incorporate into my principles of investing.
