AudioFAX Strikes Licensing Agreement with FaxSav
Internet fax leader to use patented store-and-forward technology from AudioFax
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 1998-- AudioFAX IP LLC announced today that it has entered into a long-term license agreement with FaxSav (NASDAQ: FAXX - news), a New Jersey-based leader in Internet fax, for the use of AudioFAX's patented fax technology.
Marketing its patents and intellectual property like traditional products, AudioFAX is proud to add FaxSav to the list of telecommunications industry leaders utilizing its technology.
The AudioFAX patents cover a range of inventions that incorporate fax store-and-forward technologies. Many of the technologies are used daily by millions and include products and services such as fax mail, fax broadcasting, and fax-over-the-Internet. Companies that have licensed the AudioFAX technology include MCI, Xpedite, Premiere Technologies (NASDAQ: PTEK - news), SmarTalk (NASDAQ: SMTK - news), UNIFI Communications, Omtool, Inc., FaxNet, Inc., Delrina Corp., a subsidiary of Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC - news), and Northern Telecom.
''Having a global leader like FaxSav utilize our patented technology to provide an award-winning solution is truly rewarding,'' said Mark Bloomfield, president of AudioFAX. ''The Internet fax industry is rapidly growing and we are pleased that FaxSav recognizes the need for our technology to provide innovative solutions into the future.''
AudioFAX is a pioneer in computer-based fax management technology. In 1986, when there were only 300,000 fax machines in the US, AudioFAX developed fax technologies that remain in high demand today, and are present in many of the leading fax services on the market. Agreements such as the deal with FaxSav are the result of a licensing program AudioFAX initiated in early 1997 with help from Technology & Dispute Resolutions Consulting, Inc. (TDRC). Dave Yurkerwich, TDRC's president and CEO, oversees the licensing campaign. In addition to TDRC and Bloomfield, the AudioFAX licensing team includes the Atlanta-based law firm of Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy and Isaf, Vaughn & Kerr.
''We are always glad to reach agreements which allow innovative companies to take advantage of the technology covered by the AudioFAX patents,'' said Bill Ragland of Powell Goldstein, chief licensing and litigation counsel for AudioFAX.
Despite the success of its patents, at times, AudioFAX has been forced to turn to the courts when it cannot reach agreements. AudioFAX has prevailed in every court battle involving its patents. ''As we reach agreements with more industry leading companies, it reinforces the value of the patented core fax technology,'' said Bloomfield. ''The number and quality of companies that have taken a license is right on track. We are in discussions with many other companies who recognize the need for this technology.''
