Carter also had to contend with the fallout from Nixon's wage and price controls. The worst of these effects were the oil shortages - a direct result of government meddling in the market.

Carter's responses to these problems only exacerbated them however.

I did get a more favorable impression of Carter after seeing that Carter was able to discern truth vs. obvious evasion of truth.

Carter said in simple terms (acknowledging that he had only seen "excerpts" of both the Starr rpt and the Clinton video testimony) that Clinton obviously spent considerable energy evading and running from the truth.

What is truly disturbing about Clinton is that he like a child insists he is not guilty of lying, when contrary evidence shouts from the mountaintops. He's like a child who, because they don't think they've been seen, will insist that they did not throw the ball that hit the lamp, when nobody else was in the room when the lamp broke. The difference is, a normal child will be smitten by their conscience, and begin crying under the serious gaze of their parent.

Bill appears unable to comprehend the concept of shame, much less the concept of taking responsibility for one's actions (like for starters admitting that he did indeed lie under oath, evading the truth like a moth shuns daylight).
