Diogeron, I think any time a more universal standard comes into play it enormously benefits the vendor. Ericy is obviously intent on pushing GSM world-wide, just as its competitors are intent on kicking the stuffing out of the GSM standard. It is, and will continue to be, a fierce battle.
However, none of this affects satellite telephony. GSTRF handsets will accommodate all standards [AMPS, GSM, CDMA] and I believe, but can't swear to it, that Iridium will as well. Regardless, one cannot compare satellite constellations with terrestial networks: different markets, different users, different pricing, etc. Regards, Mike Doyle
