Who are Altera's best customers? Why has outlook turned negative now? Aren't they going into the strongest part of the year quarter?
Any input and insight appreciated.

Thanks for your input. I expect ALTR softness relates to economic woes of Asian and other international customers, including Canada, Mexico and most of Latin America. It looks to be difficult for internationally-dependent companies to meet quarterly profit expectations in the face of softer markets elsewhere, and general commodity deflation. The primary plus seems to be prospects for sharply lower interest rates, in the 4-5% range in 1999, and possibly lower in 2000.

And then, October is coming, probably followed by a vigorous tax selling season. I am looking for the best bargains in Nov-Dec.
