That evil UN, the nefarious forerunner of "One World" Government. Next thing you know, they'll be sending in the black helicopters. Never mind that recent administrations, Reagan/Bush as much as Clinton, have found it very convenient to have the UN around many times in the past 20 years. Not so convenient as to have the US pay its back dues, of course. Not to mention the automatic characterization of "confiscation laws", on a matter I wager you no nothing about.

Intentional smear. That's not what I said. You're pretty good at this. What do you do for a living? I never said the UN is bad, just anti-gun. On the whole the positives outweigh the negatives as without a forum like the UN it's far more likely that disputes would erupt into gunfire.

As far as "confiscation laws" that's all registration ever leads to. Ask the British and Australians. Why else require registration but to have a list from which to confiscate? Do you think a criminal will register his illegal gun? The US Supreme Court has ruled that to require a felon to register an illegal firearm is a violation of his Fifth Amendment rights. Therefore these laws can only be used against the law abiding.

But, we get a lot more utility out of our cars, and we don't think much about licensing both vehicles and drivers. Guns, that's something else.

You don't need a license to buy or possess a car. Just to use it on the public roads. Many autos used on farms and ranches are never licensed or registered.

>>Gun deaths in the U.S. are about the same order of magnitude as car deaths. <<

Where'd you get that? I don't believe it. If it's true, I don't care.

Anyway, the whole thing with gun rights is a joke because of the following: How can you be free if the only legal right you have is that of owning a gun? All the other rights have been flushed down the tubes, as far as I'm concerned.

Isn't this a MSFT thread anyway?
