Gary,
I agree with you regarding coms and intc. While I was on a Week camp at Zion Natl Park this past summer, with the local scout troop, I was talking with one of the VPs of finance from one of intel's divisions.
He said that intel wanted very badly to get into networking. (He does not know what I do for a living) and I asked if he thought asnd or coms was on its list. He said he did not know for sure but he felt coms was the one, based on what He knew.

He retired about 3 weeks ago and we again were at a scout function last week and I again asked him about intel waiting to get into networking, and he said something should happen before the end of the year.

Ted

Gary,

<< HOwever COMS is very much aligned with INTC's business model. I think that the chances that INTC picks up COMS are very high. >>

Just what are YOU hearing? ;-) Some overlap and the DJ will be there in seconds because of it and the size of coms...remember when INTC picked up the little CHPS? There was much stink and many delays...the ones about COMS would be much bigger (this is common sense) and...well, its just dumb for INTC to grab COMS who would be a pain in the shooter and would only help Reduce margins for the future.
INTC wants to sell more CPUs, pure and simple, and with AMD and Cyrix constantly bumbling (ie. losses and losses and losses) while INTC prepares for 64, they don't want some big giant messy adapter card low margin fat and slow dude who can't get off the couch to bring them further up the growth ladder. Two steps with COMS and they'd brake the ladder they're already due for. Now, buying a MUCH smaller fellow like mrvc (which makes end to end gear from GE switches to ATM) makes more sense if they could get cheap because there would be less DJ, less money spent, less margin influence, and they could send out all that networking stuff in the same manner they threw out their adapter cards (ie, drastically cutting prices, affecting everyone in the industry there and thereby making networks cheaper, and selling more CPUs because of it!)...i may be mad, but i don't think Intc would be making a bright move by EVEN LOOKING at coms. a lot around here agree, most certainly...im a little surprised you dont bc you know a heck of a lot more than i on networks...so, is there something youre not telling us? ;-)

just mho,
cheers
