<<All these deals conflict with Lucent. Lucent makes communications chips, Lucent sells to telcos, and Lucent makes DWDM. Any thoughts why Ascend would be making these announcements on the eve of Lucent's Oct 1 date?>> Mory wants $100, he will not get it if his company looks like an order of "Sisters Of The Poor". Also, I think some of the takeover talk that seems to say "LU could be the 'salvation' of ASND" really grinds on Mory, and I can understand that. He and his guys are smart engineers, playing second fiddle to no one. A secondary reason for some of these these deals and announcements seems to be to send a message that ASND really can take care of itself. He's put me on a stomach churning roller-coaster ride, but I admire the guy. jww
