Ann,

Speaking of backlash. There is a very strong tradition in this country of not bowing to international pressure as it relates to meddling in our internal affairs (cough, cough). Firstly, I don't consider the composition of the individuals in the UN as necessarily representative of general populace of their respective countries, but even if you do proceed on that assumption, the American people just flat out don't like foreigners telling us how to conduct our national discourse.
