Starr's words on pornography

"Public media should not contain explicit or implied descriptions of sex
acts. Our society should be purged of the perverts who provide the
media with pornographic material while pretending it has some redeeming
social value under the public's 'right to know.' Pornography is pornography,
regardless of the source."

-Kenneth Starr, 1987, interview with Dianne Sawyer - 60 minutes

Doug,

Refer back to your copy of the Starr Report. He's not charged with sexual misconduct, although having sex on Federal property with an employee did violate federal law. You're not going to draw me into a discussion about Clinton's sexual proclivities apart from how it relates to his involvement in the Civil Suit and his subsequent perjury, witness tampering, and obstruction of justice. The writer of that article completely misses the point.

dougjn,

Thanks for the article. I totally agree with it.

Unfortunately, in the USA we always seem to swing too far either to the political right or left.

I'm a moderate, as are many other Americans evidently.

For many years, I thought the tendency for the voting public to split the power between congress & the presidency was foolish. To me it meant that nothing would be accomplished because of deadlock. When the congress was finally turned over to the conservatives and subsequently with Pres. Clinton's cooperation great strides were made in controlling the deficit, etc., my mind changed in that regard. Now, I'm convinced the only way to keep the ultra-liberals & equally damaging ultra-conservatives from undermining the welfare of the nation as a whole is to divide the power between both parties.

Parents are outraged at the violence & smut their children are subjected to on TV & in films; however, we should find a way to control the level of brain pollution to our children's minds without giving power to religious radicals. The latter would not only burn "classic" literature that might contain a few sexual passages but also want to force their religious beliefs on everyone else in the country.
