My neighbor a Mac consultant downloaded a beta 8.5 and has been playing around with Sherlock. You can index all disks attached to the local disk, ie. cds and zips so while he wasn't sure he thought there would be no reason why it can't index a network a la NT. The searching differs from Win98 searching because it's faster, it allows you to put the search target in at the beginning of the process instead of the middle and most importantly it grabs the search result as it's produced and places it in a file box where it can be sorted based on various factors - vice the search results in a non-sortable web page. It doesn't give the thousands of web pages a typical search can generate but whether it just takes top 10 or so or has another search refinement I don't know. He liked it a lot but the beta version was crashing his machine so he got a bit frustrated playing with it. Rich

Re: Sherlock

I'm afraid I have to be cagey here. It was a good friend of mine that developed the Internet Find technology, and as such, I have to wait until 8.5 is released to fully highlight its capabilities.

Ironically, this may be the last gift ATG made to the Mac OS before being disbanded.
