Jenna, I think YHOO is better short than AMZN since YHOO just made a new high, it will probably come down to test the old high as support. AMZN on the other hand has quite a way to go before it makes a new high. that's my rationale.

e-mail more internet....and 'trading strategies' $5-12 and $13-25 stocks.. better for 'leveraging' higher profits than $50-100 stocks..

If you want to buy internet stocks like YHOO, AMZN, CMGI and AOL than I wholeheartedly recommend the OPTIONS... How can you buy stocks for $90 -$110 and make real money? I have included the option position that I buy on the thread BEFORE I buy or at least as near as possible. I even include the code. I will be putting them in the watch lists from now on. These options are for 1-3 day holds only any longer and you are risking decaying 'assets'...

I don't think you should enter new positions in the sector yet, you could get caught up in a gap up tomorrow and be forced to buy high and sell low.... If you had a position (except for CMGI!) you probably were right in holding.

For the next few months I wouldn't pay any more than the above for stocks unless you are buying something for a long term portfolio like CSCO or WLA.. I have now taken more funds from my long term portfolio (1-3 years) and transferring it to a short/mid term portfolio up to 3 months top.. I have a lot of buying power (three times the amount of my original trading portfolio alone) so I buy low-priced stocks to maximimize profits. I buy between 500-1000 shares and try to separate my 'trading portfolio' from my short/intermediate term portfolio. Intermediate will have 300-500 shares.

That is an excellent way for me to maximize my capital's return and not speculate in risky options for more than 1-2 days...

I learn my lessons. I had a long term portfolio whose profit for 1998 shrank by 30% in the recent downdraft. I used the big rallies (today as well) to sell the portfolio when it regained over 22%.. The resultant daytrades and short term trades (up to 2 weeks) have gained from 5% to 45% each.. more than making up for my original loss.

I left some of the better ones and with the money I started a new short term and mid-term portfolio around September 4, which I will track on my own and probably churn in three month intervals...
The mid-term will be mostly 'street beaters' from my 'earnings plays'.. They should be relatively safe until the next quarter reports.

Look over some of the previous watch lists and especially the newletter archives marketgems.com for some earnings plays that beat the street the past month or so.. also if you have the inclination check last quarter's earnings plays (July/August 1998) against historical price patterns of some of the stocks.. You will be amazed at the gains (at least until August 19).......
