Petz - Re: ', AMD's K7 demo will not be at cryogenic temperatures. 600 MHz is about the limit on 0.25æ process. Petz "

That explains why the K6-2 isn't available above 600 MHz.

Of course, it doesn't explain why the K6-2 isn't available above 500 MHz - or 400 MHz - or 350 MHz.

Nonetheless, Maxwell's claim still stands. Will the K7 outperform an 804mhz Katmai which Intel demoed last week? That's Maxwell's claim. That one was .25u. I have heard rumors of a .18 tapeout of Katmai. That could mean a 1Ghz demo. How will Intel's vapor stand up to AMD's vapor? Who has a better trackrecord of turning demo's into products? With all the designers jumping ship, the K7 is bound to be late.
