>> after what has happened on Yahoo!, SI, ... Henry, not much happened on SI. And that one "imposter" incident was quickly nipped in the bud by SI's responsive management. Did he/she / it<g> ever get to post any messages? I was out of the area for most of two days. By the time I saw your "imposter alert" message to me, all that remained connected to your link was an empty screen headed by the phrase "invalid userid" or some such. From start to finish, how long did this Imposter problem exist on SI ? --------------------------------------------- Incidentally, I emailed "Jill" asking her to tell me SI's complete policy for dealing with such infractions of SI's terms of use. As yet I have no reply. Likely, they are still deliberating on their policy for such malicious abuse. And deliberating on what is POSSIBLE. ----------------------------------- Once again, I say --- why on earth would you want to hang around a goofy place like Yahoo!!?!?! when SI provides a reasonably moderated facility for investor forums ? Regards, Cheryl ------------------- PS But this incident of yours DID give me PLENTY of pause for thought. Those of us who actually do post in our real names take on substantial internet-related risks. At any time, someone out there with an axe to grind against me might be posting garbage in my name -- and I might never find out about it! My names's only protection is the healthy SKEPTICISM of people who do NOT trust too readily, but check things out. So Please, DON'T trust too fast that I am who/what i say i am!! I am really committed now to campaign for realistic skepticism and solid due diligence. We sure can't believe what we see on the Internet just because it's there, or just because a familiar name seems to back it. ------------------ That's what I was thinking when I posted that Cheryl Galt just LOOKed like a real name, but really is just a handle. As a matter of fact it technically IS just a handle. WHO KNOWs whether or not it matches my Registration Name? Some type of further corroboration is needed before being ABLE to decide. Otherwise, we're operating on groundless hunches, granting extra credibility to people whose handles happen to LOOK like real names! In my email to Jill, I suggested that SI add one more field to the Registration module of their database, and to the Profile display --- to indicate whether or not a poster's handle matches his registration name. That would sure not be perfect, since we submit NO ID when we register, but it would be a start in the right direction. ---------- Here's hoping LGND popped while i was typing this soapbox stuff.
