Tony Viola, re:< Comments about Intel 3Q +10% expected revenues not expected to
be reflected in better earnings for the quarter (in bold) sounds like from his mouth only,
to me.>
That statement isn't real clear. The current consensus for Q3 is $0.80, which is certainly up from Q2 actuals of $0.66. I assume he/they means that Q3 won't come in above consensus in spite of Intel's forecast of 8-10% revenue increase.
As I posted some time back, I think Intel will come in below consensus. The unknown factor in my mind is the amount of Xeon's shipped this quarter. This product could offset the ASP decline in PC chips. Seem's to me that growing earnings from $0.66 to $0.80 requires more than just a 10% increase in revenues, especially when you consider Intel has forecast higher expenses for the quarter.
Who knows, Intel may actually have increased CPU ASP's for the quarter if they shipped very few Pentiums, which must have been a real drag in Q2.
I also continue to think AMD will have an upside surprise for the quarter. It appears tha Compaq, IBM and HP are providing a lot of support.
