What the Merrill Vice Chairman meant was: "The do-it-yourself model of investing, centered on Internet trading, should be regarded as a serious threat to Merrill Lynch's financial lives. This approach to financial decision-making doesn't serve brokers well and it's a business model that won't deliver lasting value to my stock options."

tom, here is a total fluff piece... biz.yahoo.com notice, it says shipments will rise 13+%. so what? will revenues rise 13%? NOT! will they rise at all? maybe not. is this good news? NOPE! can the bulls figure this out before 2001? probably NOT ;-) check out this caveat: ""Next year's figures hinge on the Japanese economy -- now mired in recession -- bouncing back, no devaluation of China's currency and the resolution of economic troubles in Asian-Pacific markets and in Russia." oh, and they left out the tooth fairy will increase the pruce of a tooth by 50%, bill will keep his zipper zipped, mike tyson won't swear or bite, elvis will reappear and kip will give an honest examination of his industry ;-) so, bad news is dependent on pie in the sky assumptions. if not, we get disasterous news. great. ought to be worth 10-20% upside in the semis and the box makers. ;-)
