Anyone think it will/won't?

I don't know if it will or if it won't, however I must say Apple gets a strong boost from the education market and that is likely to last only for the first fifteen days of september or so..

<do we think apple will have the #1 selling computer in September>

Good question. Let's see. The top computer had an 8.6% share while iMac had 7.1%.

If the other computer's sales stayed constant, then iMac sales would have to increase by 21% over August.

17 days in August,
30 days in September

That's 76% more days to sell the iMac.

So, if iMac per-day sales stayed constant, the Sept. market share would come in at 12.5%.

To match the 8.6% of the HP Pavilion, then, iMac per-day sales could be a mere 68.8% in Sept. compared to August.

Conclusion:

iMac will be #1 if HP Pavilion sales increases don't outpace the rest of the market (i.e., doesn't grow market share on its own)

and

the iMac maintains at least 68.8% of the per-day sales volume it had in August.

Do I think they can do it? Yes. Is it assured? Definitely not. There was a lot of pent-up demand with the iMac, and it remains to be seen how quickly demand will dry up.

<<Question is: do we think apple will have the #1 selling computer in September (since the iMac became #2 in only 17 days of sales in the month)? This would be astounding news if it can happen. Anyone think it will/won't? Personally-I think we are going to see it happen.

I think iMac will become #1 in September due to the following reasons:

(1) Booming overseas iMac sales since the end of August, from Japan,
to Europe. Overseas revenues account for nearly 50% of Apple total
revenues in last quarters. Japan is a good example of successful
story on iMac sales overseas. I think it appears to be terrific in
Europe, especially France. Besides, pent-up demand will also apply
on overseas markets.

(2) Educational demand continues particularly before/after schools
open, which could extend its peak sales another couple of weeks in
September, both apply on US and worldwide markets.

(3) From the percentage difference between HP's Palivion 6330 and
iMac, it won't be difficult for iMac to exceed HP's judged from period
of time extended from 17 days in August to 30 days in September.

I'm pretty confident that iMac will be #1 in September.
