"Negroponte sees explosive e-commerce"

The founder of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology media lab said the prospects for e-commerce are greatly under-estimated. Speaking at the Electronic Commerce World trade show in Denver, Nicholas Negroponte estimated more than $1 trillion in online sales will be made in 2002, the Denver News reported. He said he considers electronic commerce a way for businesses in small countries to compete against global giants, and pointed out Internet access is common in Finland while the French and Germans have shown little interest. Negroponte is a member of the board of directors of DigiCash Inc., a Palo Alto, calif. company developing Internet payment products.
