I have a question for the group. Assuming that DSL takes off in a big way (a large assumption, I know), are the comms chip makers that focus on this area (such as PMCS, AMCC, VTSS) in a position to reap as large a reward as the equipment makers? Specifically:

- Are they in a bargaining position with the equipment makers they sell to such that they can keep a larger portion of the value-added and profits from selling in?
- Is there an architecture issue that could play out such that the equipment makers standardize on an architecture that one of the chip makers is pushing? In other words, is there a potential for a chip maker to define an architecture that would create addiction/switching barriers among the equipment makers?
- Or, are they just selling components into the equipment makers?

The reason I ask the question is that I assume the bandwidth issues on the Internet are not going away soon, so I'm looking for the player (other than Cisco) who will reap the biggest rewards. Is there a guerilla in here somewhere?

Thanks for any comments,

OGM
