JLA, Repub delay in the House in the face of Demo pressure to hurry up and vote articles of impeachment against him up or down has absolutely no traction. None. It's an unsustainable argument. Of course it won't work exactly like that, but that's the underlying essence. Demos. on the HJC will argue for throwing out Starr's charges, starting with the most far fetched. Repubs. will say we need more facts. Demos will say no we don't, lets decide only based on what Starr has presented us, and whatever Clinton manages to send over the transom while we're at it. What are the Repubs going to counter with? No, we need to have a full Clinton cross examination here? Which the Demos resist as diversionary? Doesn't work. Repubs look like horrible delayers. Which is what the public wants least, with near unanimity. That would be a clear path to November backlash against Repubs. No, the House action will be a lot faster than you think. Despite the redoubtable Newt's efforts to slow things down. Unless of course Clinton is stupid enough to send messages he wants full deliberate go slow in the House. (I don't think Clinton will, because it's useless. Not a chance in hell he'll escape all counts in the House. And what real difference would it make for the House to eliminate a few of the counts? Anything the House can do for Clinton, the Senate can do better.) Ok, it would help a little to lower the wood stack the Senate has to chop, but not that much. And it isn't worth protracted House delay, from a no impeachment point of view. If the Repubs. delay long in the House they will face a ferocious noise rising up from the Country, when all the Pres. supporters say send it on. Doug
