why would Intel want to go from a monopoly business to a commodity business? 'Cause if all the network flow you are getting comes thru a pinhole, you don't need much of a PC to surf the net. If the net connection was more like a fire hose, you might buy a hotter PC. Intel is in search of the next killer app to drive PC upgrade sales. The network, videoconferencing, voice over IP, and who knows what, may be that killer app. Intel wants to enhance the net to bolster Intel's oligopoly business. I believe Intel was a party to the group that is pushing DSL down the baby bell's throats. IMO, Intel's networking push is designed to alter the market to suit Intel's strength: processors. I have nothing specific to offer regarding coms. Just a general strategic comment. Cheers!
