why would Intel want to go from a monopoly business to a commodity business?

'Cause if all the network flow you are getting comes thru a pinhole, you don't need much of a PC to surf the net. If the net connection was more like a fire hose, you might buy a hotter PC. Intel is in search of the next killer app to drive PC upgrade sales. The network, videoconferencing, voice over IP, and who knows what, *may* be that killer app. Intel wants to enhance the net to bolster Intel's oligopoly business. I believe Intel was a party to the group that is pushing DSL down the baby bell's throats. IMO, Intel's networking push is designed to alter the market to suit Intel's strength: processors.

I have nothing specific to offer regarding coms. Just a general strategic comment. Cheers!
