Joe,

<It's hard for me to understand where their profit "zone" is.>

It's even harder for AMD to understand. That's why they have reported hefty losses for 4 straight quarters and 7 of the last 9 quarters. But you know what the AMD faithful/gullible say "this time is different" <ggg>.

Joe - Re: " Can AMD yield enough parts to warrant production as a mobile part only, if they tried to move their desktop production to all K6-2? Or will they continue to offer k-6 in desktop? (no profit here)."

The K6-2 266 sells for $84 and the K6-2 300 MHz sells for $110 as per Pricewatch.com

I saw a K6-2 266 MHz at Fry's in Silicon Valley selling for $54.90 TODAY !

The question is - can AMD make money on anything they sell - K6-2 or K6?

Whatever profits they may make on the fast stuff (350 MHz) may be offset by losses on the low end stuff.
