Product/service integration with Entrust
BELL EMERGIS/MPACT IMMEDIA AND ENTRUST TECHNOLOGIES INTEGRATE PRODUCT AND SERVICE OFFERINGS TO ENABLE SECURE E-COMMERCE FOR ORGANIZATIONS
Date: 10/5/98 9:28:01 AM Bell Emergis/MPACT Immedia and Entrust(R) Technologies, Inc. announced today a strategic partnership that will utilize Entrust's public-key infrastructure (PKI) security solutions as Bell Emergis/MPACT Immedia's technology of choice to protect the digital transactions and communications of its external customers.
Under the terms of the agreement Entrust will license its award-winning PKI product solutions to Bell Emergis/MPACT Immedia to provide Entrust-based Certification Authority (CA) services worldwide through Bell's OnWatch(TM) Service. The deal with Bell Emergis/MPACT Immedia provides an alternative channel for companies to benefit from Entrust's security - via an outsourced arrangement. The outsourcing of digital certificate issuance and management is a high growth area within the security software industry.
Because the Bell OnWatch Service originated in 1996, Bell Emergis/MPACT Immedia is the first, and therefore most experienced, outsourced provider of such services utilizing Entrust technology. As a result, and under certain circumstances, Bell Emergis/MPACT Immedia will be Entrust's preferred provider of outsourced CA services and preferred partner in pursuit of new sales opportunities, in the Canadian marketplace.
Also under this agreement, the sales force of Entrust will represent the Bell Emergis/MPACT Immedia OnWatch service offering to its clients and conversely, the Emergis sales group will be authorized to resell Entrust products to their customers in North America. This combined effort will enable mutual customers and prospects to be better informed as to the benefits of this alternative method of acquiring and operating an Entrust-based PKI solution.
"The expertise and experience Bell Emergis/MPACT Immedia will deploy in providing outsourced CA services to organizations worldwide makes Emergis a natural first choice for the provision of similar services to our customers," said John Ryan, president and CEO, Entrust Technologies, Inc. "And, Bell Emergis/MPACT Immedia's choice of Entrust for its security standard, combined with the use of Entrust solutions by other major corporations, helps reinforce our position as the standard for managed IT security within organizations."
"We are the first in Canada to provide an outsourced CA service based on Entrust technology and one of the few in the world," said Christian Trudeau, Executive Vice-President and COO of the newly combined entity of the Electronic Business Solutions division of Bell Emergis and MPACT Immedia. "Our partnership with Entrust allows us to use its best of breed public-key infrastructure technology and is a strong endorsement of our ability to manage comprehensive and large-scale PKI implementations."
Bell's OnWatch Service is an electronic business security solution which utilizes the Entrust/PKI(TM) to store, distribute and manage encryption and authentication keys via the Internet. Customers who choose the new Bell Emergis service will benefit from improved security, certification management and complete bilingual help desk services - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Furthermore, their service is enhanced with high availability enterprise server clusters and redundant network components featuring no single point of failure.
