Trade Panel Reportedly To Rule On Micron-Mosel Case Next Year

TAIPEI -(Dow Jones)- The International Trade Commission will announce
in mid-1999 the initial findings of its investigation into claims by
Micron Technology Inc. of the U.S. that Taiwan's Mosel Vitelic Inc.
infringed upon its patented chip technology, a local newspaper reported
Wednesday.
A spokesman at Mosel wasn't available for comment.
Micron (MU) brought the case to the attention of the ITC in August,
according to the report in the Chinese-language Economic Daily News,
which added that Taiwanese chip-maker Mosel doesn't expect the ITC's
findings to substantially affect it.
In July, Micron filed a lawsuit in U.S. courts against the Taiwanese
semiconductor company and its U.S. unit for infringement on six patents
relating to Micron's dynamic random access memory, or DRAM, technology.
The U.S. company is seeking both damages and an injunction
prohibiting the future use of its patents.
