Shane,

Case closed! --> 2,889,388 * (3.50 + .06 * 50) = $18,781,022

I DO hope you are indeed right! Time will tell. I'll stick with my guess for now...

Here's some interesting numbers from PC-Data...

On Symantec's web site, you can find a nice spreadsheet of each of their projects market share by month, compiled by PC-Data. I took a look at Visual Cafe, a product which competes with J-Builder. Below are the % market share numbers for each month of '98.

Jan 35%
Feb 21%
Mar 43%
April 43%
May 42%
June 34%
July 26%

Now we have something interesting to talk about... First of all, is PC-data really getting a good idea of the total unit sales figures, since Inprise is shying away from shrink-wrap sales in retail stores?

Secondly, I'm under the impression that this is market share based on unit sales, not actual revenue share. Is anyone familiar enough with PC-Data's figures to comment on this? This is important because Inprise has been aiming at the high-end market and programmers seem to prefer the high-end product.

Lastly, is the decline in Visual Cafe's substantial (> 40%) market share in the last few months a real effect or just a blip similar to that seen in Feb '98? If it's significant, who's grabbing market share? Since I don't have a subscription to PC-Data, I'm only looking at what Symantec is handing over to investors. Is there someone with a subscription willing to grab this info on Inprise? Wouldn't it be nice if Inprise Investor Relations provided this information like Symantec does?

Cheers,
Dennis
