So I sent them the following this morning. I also copied this message to webmaster@dell.com, as perhaps they can make sure it gets acted on:

Well, I thought I *was* clear -- you should go register two additional web sites, excite.dell.com and excite.dell.com for the following already stated reason:

>>>people might hear about it as the "Dell and Excite deal," or as the "Excite and Dell deal," and get confused about the web address.<<<

In other words, if they hear "Excite" before "Dell" (for instance, word-of-mouth from someone who owns Excite stock but not Dell stock, as in "Hey, did you hear about the Excite and Dell deal?"), then they might try typing in the wrong address (one of the two listed in my first paragraph, which currently do not work, instead of one of the currently valid dell.excite.com or dell.excite.com ).

I tried grabbing those two myself after giving you 24 hours warning, but as you already own the top-level domain (the Excite in excite.com), your failure to act on my initial communication didn't cost your company money.

The point is to make it as easy as possible for people to find you. I'm certain someone working for Dell would approve of this, but since it's Excite's top-level domain I believe someone in your organization needs to act on this in order to make it happen.

I hope my request is now clear. I wish you success -- you could do a lot worse than partnering with Dell.

Enjoy,
KenB
