<<The lines are so blurry, in fact, that Nortel announced a $7.7 billion
merger with Bay Networks in June and Cisco weighed closer ties with
Lucent before deciding it would be a bad fit. More recently, speculation
has risen that Cisco is interested in Ciena, a maker of
telecommunications gear based in Linthicum, Md. Chambers says that,
too, would be a tough merger because of the companies' differences in
geography and culture.

Still, Chambers predicts that his industry will continue to consolidate so
that there are two to five major global players -- one of them Cisco. >>

All facts....but true. Sure a merger with CIEN would be tough...but HE DID NOT DENY IT..!!!!!
