Sean--I gather that a "swtiching hub" as SVEC defines it doesn't have live switches over each port, but only between 10 and 100 ports (which are autodetected.) This way, both fast and regular ethernet can interoperate simultaneously. More than a hub, less than a switch? ;) In any case, if you don't need the performance of the fine switch families you'd mentioned, it seems like a bargain. In any case, I've been pleased so far. It _seems_ to perform better and more readily than the other fast e-net hubs I've tried, FWIW. (Never had the pleasure of using the switches you'd mentioned.)
