From the response I got from Sitra, it doesn't seem that the news release warranted such a drastic reaction: > Date: Thu, 24 Sep 1998 11:20:10 -0400 > From: > To: info@great-white.com > Subject: News Release > Mr. Sitra, > > I know you have probably been flooded with e-mail and phone calls > today about Great White Marine. Today's press release was the result of S.A. Advisory's "SELL" recommendation yesterday after the close of the market and its editor's, Mr. Bill Velmer, scathing remarks. As you may recall, S.A. Advisory issued a sell recommendation for 50% of their portfolio earlier this year. At the time Great White's stock was trading a little over $3 a share and quickly dropped to $1.50 as a result. We believe we are seeing the same type of knee-jerk reaction from S.A. Advisory's readers who seem to buy and sell almost on command. In regards to Mr. Velmer's comments regarding the SEC informal investigation, yes it is true. The SEC informally investigates hundreds, if not thousands, of publicly traded companies each year for a variety of reasons. This year alone Great White's President and CEO, Colin Smith, has written letters to his Senator and Congressman to have the SEC look into trading irregularities of Great White's stock. We are also aware that there has been an unusually high volume of open discussions on the Internet regarding Great White and many participants have claimed to have requested similar investigations. In other words, we are not surprised by the SEC's investigation. However, if you, or anyone else, were to contact the SEC and ask about the investigation, they would tell you they could not confirm nor deny whether an investigation was being conducted. Just as much, they will not tell those they are inquiring as to what exactly they are looking for either. Therefore, Mr. Velmer seems to be making quite an assumption saying that "the Company itself is being investigated for possible illegal sale of shares according to SEC rules and regulations." I myself have been issued a subpoena, but the Re: line, which gives us the only clues as to what the SEC is looking into, states, "In the Matter of Great White Marine & Recreation and In the Matter of Certain Internet Investment Newsletters." It is because of this that Great White's securities counsel decided to issue today's press release. While we do not know exactly what will become of this investigation, if anything, Great White did not want to see an onslaught of new rumors as a result of S.A. Advisory's "SELL" recommendation and comments. In no place has anyone - S.A. Advisory, Mr. Velmer or the SEC - questioned Great White's business and recent developments. I hope this helps answer your questions and shed some light on the current situation. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, J.
