wish i could be of help. we've discussed raising margin requirements as a surgical strike for deflating this bubble on the ask michael burke thread. i don't remember where i read greenspan said that but i do remember reading it. it was on si, though i think an article was linked.

I remember a quote from (forgot her name, but she's Greenspan's second in command) that the level of margin buying of stocks was not substantial enough to be a danger. I think the bigger danger is in the level of participation because this can turn a moderate financial crisis into a big economic crisis.
