Joe:
You are correct. ADSL has had problems with acceptance simply because the user-to-user system (ie modems, line operators, simple unit charge, etc) was not fully synchronized (no pun intended!). Now computer buyers will be able to buy a truly functional system for a reasonable price. Dell should expand this to a US-wide audience. Since many home buyers want a computer principally for the Web this will be a solid reason to buy DELL even beyond its quality, reliability and price. Lets see how it pans out over the next few quarters.

Joe,

You're absolutely right...DELL is definitely out there in the lead with ADSL. I wonder if they aren't setting themsevles up for service issues though. They are partnering with different organizations which target unique geographic areas. If you're in USWest Territorry you need Cisco product, if you're in SBC territory you need Alcatel product. So, if you're a corporation you need to purchase geographic specific PC's...and you will have difficulty migrating them around. Or, if you're a consumer and you move from one carrier to the other...well..... ouch.. it'll be painful.

DELL has defnitely taken a lead, but are they there before the product this time???

Hi Joe,..Re: Dell correctly sees ADSL as the best intermediate transition solution to the bandwidth bottleneck we all experience now and will enable some very exciting applications in the near future

Geat post Joe.

Thanks,
