The three million shares are associated with the two purchases Amzn made in June(stock vs. cash purchases). Those shares were issued and filed and waiting to be cashed in by the "owners" of the two companies Amzn purchased.

We know that almost the entire Original(certificated) 10 million shares float are in the hands of institutions with a very low average cost base(may be in the $15 or $20) area. They also own part of the "short" shares float.

I think some of the insitutions had "unloaded some shares" into the recent rallies; and we know for sure that the insiders sold more than 2 million shares in the past 8 week per filed 144s.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

p.s. there was a good post yesterday from RFF on the above, also a good post from John (via yhoo). I will try to locate them.
