GPS ... positional short posted a couple of weeks ago when the retail sector was hitting a buying climax. Finally fell apart today as expected with the help of the market.

I was up about 8% after yesterday in the experimental portfolio.

I thought about setting a protective stop at a 5% gain, but did not declare that I would.

In hindsight, that would have been a good idea.

After a two day hold on a position play, is a protective stop really the right thing to do when the overall increase is still under 10 %.

Theoretically, the issue could have dipped, stop could have triggered, and then bounced back for a gain that would have been left on the table.

The issue tanked today, but tomorrow is another day.

Your opinion on this question ?
