Don't think there is a away to get an accurate or even a reasonable guess as to how many will move over to NiMH. I can say that I have heard some drivers say that the Lead Acids are adequate to their needs and will not pay the extra money for a new lease with NIMH batteries. I expect that Saturn or GM will be sending a questionnaire on how many drivers will switch in the next week or so.

In a way its a great endorsement of EVs as a perfect urban vehicle. The fifty or so miles is more than enough for some drivers in their daily (95%) routines. Imagine how much better the car will be at twice or three times that range.
We have heard that in Michigan (flat terrain) the NiMH battery has often been getting between 200 and 240 miles on a charge. It will be advertised at 160 mpCharge and knowing the terrain of Los Angeles I will be thrilled at anything over 130.
I do believe that in the future very few people will opt for the lead acids. I even think they will become extinct in a short time in electric vehicles.
