I suggest dealing with the MSN "problem" if and when it becomes a problem. There have been plenty of Microsoft failures and also-ran products.

Microsoft has no leverage over the portal space other than its IE default home-page setting. That isn't enough to catch up. They will need to offer a compelling alternative, and it is a reach at this point to say they will achieve that simply because they are Microsoft. Microsoft isn't a services company anyway.

It would take billions to duplicate what Yahoo is today, and I don't think Microsoft has the will to risk the amounts necessary to come from this far behind and win. Yahoo doesn't threaten Microsoft's core product strategy like Navigator did, and rubbing-out Yahoo with an embrace and extend strategy is impossible...particularly on all the fronts they would need to battle Yahoo's many branded services.

Press releases are one thing, producing is another.
