I liked the old Syquest drives too. very sturdy. No click of death!

Most reliable. But I've since gotten a Jaz and several zips.

I forgot to mention this on SI, but it turns out that Iomega is now replacing all Zip (and Jaz?) drives exhibiting the Click of Death problem, as well as all disks trashed by it, whether the drive is still under warranty or not!

David Hellier, Iomega's General Manager of the Zip Aftermarket Business, announced this very fact on a recent segment of "The Screen Savers," a television show on the Ziff-Davis Television Network. This really works, and here's the web page with all the pertinent details:

grc.com

I hope this is useful to any of you out there who've been scammed by this problem and have been unable to get a remedy. Please let me know if you use it and get a new Zip drive.

A good example of when a poorer quality competitor destroys the better quality competitor. I have a number of jaz drives because they are so unreliable I can't rely on just one.
