Given the neagtive earning outlook for Ciena, no one wants to engage in a merger/acquisition that will be dilutive. Shareholders will never approve such a move. That's when acquiring the technology is not a strong enough motive. Besides, why can't LU and the others create this execllent technology in house.

TLAB stated that possibly they could revisit the agreement in the future. It was concern from stock holders and the ensuing volatility of the stock that made them scrap the original plan. I have heard nothing to indicate otherwise.
