Ron, A supposedly democratic system with only one party has all of the disadvantages of democracy with none of the advantages. Witness Mexico, if you want to look farther than Japan. In the Philippines we have as many parties as we have politicians, and none of them have a definable platform, beyond "me first". That is as bad, possibly worse. Free-market democracy is great, but it's something that evolves, and it can't be established by fiat. This we've seen illustrated too many times. Steve
