According to the FOMC schedule, the next meeting after this month is on Nov. 17. I shudder to think what will happen to the US equity markets in October without some sort of cut on the 29th.

IMO, it is more likely the Feds will lower Fed Funds rate by 1/4% in October, instead of next week. Either way, S&P will likely drop on the news. Soon after, there will be cries for additional rate cut. One or two rate cuts of 1/4% will not be adequate.
