If you close your October position and simultaneuosly sell the same strike price January for instance, your broker should not require any additional cash. Probably something that one needs to do over the phone though rather than online.

You might even pick up a few eights due to the time value. And you can skip the margin interest this way. I am assuming you were planning to hold onto any VLSI shares Put to you until we returned to nearer 15.

Of course you might recoup your loss quicker if you just took the stock and made about 10 nifty day trades of VLSI.

And cheer up. It could be worse. You could own CRUS too.
