Mr. Fischofer, you'll have to take this one up with Larry Sullivan, in post 10989 here, (http://www2.techstocks.com/~wsapi/investor/reply-5835106). He had a problem when I brought up your argument in a slightly different context. Of course, this is just the hobgoblin in my small mind at work again, the expansive mind of that other Bill has no problem with such conundrums about "competition" meaning different things in different contexts. Nothing can compete with Windows, except in a certain legal context, where competition abounds.

Cheers,Dan.

Bill -
When was the last time you cared what applications ran on your microwave oven? Your view of the future of consumer computing is pretty limited. I assure you that the senior executives at MSFT do not share your complacency.

Linux is not an end user system and does not have to run "Barbie's Dreamhouse" to be a serious problem for Microsoft. It needs to be useful running web servers (Apache and Netscape are both available) and various software development environments.

Microsoft isn't too worried about a new OS that's good for "Barbie's Dreamhouse". :)
