My question: I recently picked up a 36x CD-ROM at a show and although it has high throughput, it takes a while to begin to retrieve data while it spins up. It sounds like a jet engine getting ready for take off.<G> My perception is that it's a slower drive than my old Gateway's 8x even though it's "faster." I suppose this is because game playing uses the CD interactively and loading software uses the high throughput. Does anyone else see this kind of behavior or is it just the particular drive I bought? Does anyone know where you can get 8x drives these days? All the ads I see are for 24x and up? Dave

Sean Any speed CD is acceptable for loading software Thanks Sean......Tosiba 32X or > it is then... no multimedia usage on this machine. I don't even want a sound card.. I'm spec'ing the In win Q500A case, which I believe you also used for a recent machine. Can I ask you if that case comes equiped with a speaker for beeps and low quality voice Real Audio feed? (no mention of speaker at In win URL) and do you think this is workable lowquality sound solution. The previous mention of no sound card system here was not favored by Spots. What do you think?
