Most of the public still thinks the $ 40 million plus was spent on the Interngate scandal. Your article also misrepresents this factoid.

Poll Finds Clinton Is on the Rebound Since Video Airing nytimes.com

Here's the NYT story on that poll, with a little more background analysis. They still see Republicans looking pretty good in the Nov. elections, and I'd have to more or less agree with that. It's sort of a strange inversion of Ronald Reagan's very successful politics, where Reagan paid lip service to the Christian Nation/ Moral Crusade side of the Republican party, and was always happy to play it up while campaigning, but mostly ignored that agenda when push came to shove. Here, the Republicans are no doubt going to have to softpedal the moral crusade a bit through the elections, or at least try to keep the lecturing confined to select audiences. After that tiresome election business is over, I'm sure interest will be reignited.
