<<"Pigboy - Re: " As for AMD pricing - AMD makes sure that before they go swimming, they always PISS in the pool first. "

How else can you describe this company?

They try to insure that nobody can make any money in a given product area by low-balling prices. They use this to gain market share.

What they have so far learned is that many customers are more than willing to buy AMD products in the short term - as long as AMD is still in business.>>

You are in rage. Remember it is Intel who is trying to drive AMD out of business by cutting price on their CPU MONTHLY! They started last year by cutting the price of their Pentium by 40%. They were killing AMD since AMD K6 die size at that time was 163mm^2 and Intel Pentium die was 90mm^2 and AMD has only 1 fab. Today AMD is in a better position to counterattack Intel since AMD die size is half on Intel and is able to get 2.5X more dice out on the 0.25um compared to 0.35um. If Intel wants to play rough AMD will play rough. If Intel forbid AMD to "swim in the pool" with Intel then AMD "will piss in the pool which Intel swims in".

If Intel continues to drop prices AMD will drop further and introduces faster speed. AMD will introduces the K6-2-400 by late October. If Intel wants to drop their price further then AMD will unveal their 450MHz and will be happy to sell it for $200! Remember the cycle time and cost of producing a 450MHz or 350MHz is the same for AMD. For Intel it is another story. The higher speed they go the better and faster SRAM they must use for their cartridge. These faster SRAM don't come cheap.

So don't complain and look at the situation from both sides.
