Probably because they are lying, and their stupidity leads them to believe that to do so will somehow make them more credible. They fail to realize that once they open their mouth (keyboard), it is apparent to all just what the truth is.

Why do the most moronic claim to have degrees from the most prestigious schools? His, from Stanford and that other moron from Harvard?

That is easy. If you are going to have a degree, it might as well be from a reputable place! (:-)
