Dell says global sales strong
AUSTIN, Texas, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Dell Computer Corp. executives said on Friday that strong demand for computers was pushing sales upwards, even in economically-stricken areas such as Asia and Latin America.

They said new technology and software were driving sales growth, which chairman and founder Michael Dell said would average 17 percent the next three years for the overall industry and much higher for Dell.

Dell said at a meeting with analysts he had seen no sign of weakness in Dell sales in Latin America, Asia and Japan, all areas which are experiencing economic turmoil.

''Our business continues to be pretty good there,'' he said.

Dell vice chairman Mort Topfer said business was so good in the troubled regions that the company was forging ahead with expansion plans in Latin America and China.

''While other companies appear to be suffering under the economic downturn (in those regions)...our business continues to flourish and we are excited about the prospects going forward,'' he said.

''We continue to gain marketshare across the world,'' Topfer said.

''The constant stream of technology that is delivered by the semiconductor world and by our friends in the software world is creating what we think is a very robust demand cycle,'' Dell said. ''We believe industry growth will be 17 percent the next three years...we believe we (Dell) have the ability to grow at multiples to the market.''
