NASA Awards Lockheed Martin Led
Team Consolidated Space Operations Contract

BETHESDA, Md., Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has selected the team led by Lockheed Martin to consolidate mission and data services operations at five of NASA's major centers. The Consolidated Space Operations Contract (CSOC)is valued at more than $3 billion over 10 years.

The Integrated Operations Architecture (IOA) which Lockheed Martin will implement for NASA on CSOC will provide the agency with an infrastructure for space operations in the 21st century.
Working in partnership with NASA, Lockheed Martin and its commercial teammates will leverage the rapidly advancing state of communications and data system technologies to consolidate and streamline NASA's space operations architecture.

The integrated, Internet-Protocol-based IOA will increase performance and functionality while decreasing the operations and sustaining costs. With NASA, Lockheed Martin will move space operations to a commercial based structure, increasing its use by commercial customers, while ensuring mission success.

''CSOC is all about the future,'' said Jay Honeycutt, president and program manager, Lockheed Martin Space Operations Company. ''By reducing the cost of space operations, the team will save NASA funding that can be used for space and earth science programs, and new research initiatives. CSOC will present a variety of challenges but we look forward to working closely with NASA to achieve their goals.''
