Patent No 21 in 2 years

United States Patent 5,812,179
Pensavecchia, et. al. Sept. 22, 1998
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparatus for laser-discharge imaging including beam-guiding assemblies

Abstract

Laser guiding and focusing apparatus for imaging lithographic printing members responsive to the output of laser devices. Radiation passes through at least one discrete layer of a printing member and ablates one or more underlying layers, resulting in an imagewise pattern of features on the printing member. The radiation is obtained from a laser diode and its dispersion reduced to produce an image spot with maximum depth-of-focus tolerance.

Neil, isn't Frank Pensavecchia the one that PRST built a golf hole for at the Hudson facility? I love a guy that likes golf that much. My buddy is an engineer, very driven and knows all the scores and the totals at the end of a round and during. He is also scratch. I hope Frank is enjoying the last days of fall in the North-East.

It is no wonder that Kodak is having problems introducing an ablation no-process plate with the tremendous head start and patent portfolio of PRST. Funny how you and I have been saying this for what seems like a life time now. That the thermal no-process plates and digital direct to press would eventually be the norm in the industry. It seems that the giant Heidelberg is also commited to the same. Most of the 1 1/2 halls taken up at IPEX by them was a commitment to the digital work flow.

Good luck to each and all
