Who, me: I would agree that no term -- liberal, conservative, right-wing Christian, & etc. -- should be used as a cuss word. To be more specific: I do not approve of ad hominem arguments, that imply that because X is a "liberal," or a "conservative," or whatever, he/she is ipso facto wrong.

At the same time, I think it is fair to criticize VIEWS one disagrees with, although I would prefer that terms like "conservative" or "liberal" not be used to describe them, because they are so misleading.

Part of the problem, I suspect, is that self-styled "conservatives" tend to CALL their views "conservative," and take pride in the label. So their opponents respond accordingly.

Who, me?-

Several days ago someone asked where the 66% were that supported Clinton. I replied that the majority were most likely home drawing their welfare checks. The following was part of the next message by our beloved jbe-

"The anti-Clinton "fanatics", however, do.

I use the word "fanatic" here in a particular sense. It is not meant to apply to everyone
who believes Clinton should resign, or be impeached. It is meant to apply to that
vociferous minority whose anti-Clintonism is linked to a specific right wing political
agenda. This minority hates not just Clinton, but also that 66% of the citizenry (actually, it
is less than 66% now) which is reluctant to see the President kicked out. (Take a look, for
example, at the post immediately preceding this one.)

I responded by more or less accusing him of being a liberal and he came unglued. While I do not agree with the liberal point of view, I did not consider liberal to mean a "cuss word", but I may change my mind about that. :0))
