I just heard Poshard on the radio saying that he had to hurry back to Washington to vote against the tax-cut proposal. He said the president wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Poshard is an interesting throwback--a socially conservative but economically liberal Democrat. He's running against George Ryan--a socially liberal fiscally conservative Republican. Poshard has a tough race. With his strong union backing, I would think he would want to distance himself from Clinton's watered down Republican fiscal policies. I was surprised he came out with the statement expressing support for the President.
